PGA Tour – The RSM Classic

Sunshine and European Tour – Joburg Open

Denmark’s Joachim B Hansen produced a strong back nine of three birdies in five holes from the turn to win a tense final-round battle with South Africa’s Wilco Nienaber and claim his maiden European Tour title in the Joburg Open at Randpark Golf Club on Sunday.

Hansen closed with a composed 67 to win on 19 under par, with Nienaber taking second place on 17 under after a 70 and following a classic back-nine battle for this title.

Hansen went into the final round one shot behind the 20-year-old Nienaber. The South African made three consecutive birdies from the fourth hole to move ahead of the field and looked to be headed for his breakthrough victory on the European Tour, while Hansen could only respond with one birdie on the front nine.

“Wilco played really solidly and holed some good putts for pars and birdies that kept him going and he didn’t let me in. So I had to do it myself with a strong finish,” said Hansen.

The Dane finally made his move with birdies on holes 10, 12 and 14 to tie Nienaber on 19 under par. And the young South African then faltered coming in with bogeys at 17 and 18.

“It was a fun battle out there with Wilco. I kept the head calm out there and we stuck to the plan in terms of where we wanted to hit our drives and approaches. I kept pushing. It started slowly but suddenly the birdies came on the back nine.

Japan Golf Tour – Dunlop Phoenix

Takimi Kanaya who has turned professional in October 2020 and still a senior in college, won the Dunlop Phoenix after a playoff against Tomohiro Ishizawa.

The two rookies ended up going on to 4 extra holes at total 13 under. On the extra holes played out on 18th. It was par, birdie, then birdie for both of them for the first 3 extra holes. Then finally on the 4th extra hole, winner was decided.

Tomohiro Ishizawa pushed his tee shot into the right-side trees, had to lay up and his 3rd shot was just too long and fell off the end of the green. On the other hand, Takumi Kanaya went for the green in two which was also over the green, but his 3rd shot got him within 1-meter for a birdie chance. Tomohiro couldn't get his 4th shot to be a chip-in and had to settle for par. Takumi safely made the birdie putt and took away the battle between the rookies to make his first professional victory come true.

Challenge Tour - Challenge Tour Grand Final

Ondrej Lieser made history by becoming the first Czech player to win the Road to Mallorca Rankings as he secured his second title in as many starts at the Challenge Tour Grand Final.

The 29-year-old produced a closing three under par round of 68 to reach 11 under par and clinch an emotional victory at T-Golf and Country Club. His win saw him climb five places to the top of the Road to Mallorca Rankings and become the first Challenge Tour Number One to hail from the Czech Republic.

He earned a narrow one-stroke victory in Mallorca, with Sweden’s Christofer Blomstrand, Germany’s Alexander Knappe and Spain’s Santiago Tarrio finishing in a tie for second place on ten under par on a tight day where several players held the lead at various points in the day.

Lieser’s victory is his second in as many Challenge Tour starts after winning the Andalucía Challenge de España last time out and after spending a week at home to gather his thoughts before travelling to Mallorca, he dedicated his life-changing victory to his wife, Michaela.

“It’s really emotional for me,” he said. “The two putts I holed on 17 and 18 were unbelievable. In those circumstances, with that amount of pressure, I don’t even know how I did it.

“I spoke with my wife already, I was crying at the time. Four years ago, when I met my wife, my life just turned around. I was close to stopping playing, I wasn’t going to play anymore. With her and with the girls at home, it just turned around. It’s not even my win, it’s mostly her win. She gives me the strength, especially mentally, to hold it together.

PGA Tour Canada, China, LatinoAmerica

When the final round of the LOCALiQ Series began, David Pastore trailed Trace Crowe by a shot. Early in his back nine, Pastore had stormed ahead by four shots and looked to be cruising. By the end of the day, all he could do was watch to see if there would be a playoff. When Crowe missed a 12-foot birdie putt that would have left the two tied, Pastore had the title that had eluded him all season, capturing the season-ending event by the narrowest of margins.

The win pushed Pastore into the second spot on the season-long points list, and he earned a playing spot in the PGA TOUR’s 2021 Barbasol Championship by virtue of his victory. Crowe, a non-International Tour member, had a runner-up finish and a tie for fourth in only three Series starts.
