PGA Tour - AT&T Byron Nelson

Sung Kang made a 23-foot birdie putt on the 15th hole to finally take the lead for good at the AT&T Byron Nelson and held on for his first PGA TOUR victory on a 27-hole Sunday at Trinity Forest.

That was the second of three consecutive birdies for Kang, the 31-year-old South Korean who lives in North Texas. In his 159th career PGA TOUR start, Kang closed with a 4-under 67 to finish at 23 under and beat Matt Every and Scott Piercy by two strokes.

Kang pumped his fist when the birdie dropped in at No. 15, making for a two-stroke swing at the 431-yard par 4. Every, who started that hole tied for the lead, was in the middle of the fairway and had a decent approach before three-putting for bogey.

Twice over the last two days, Every overcame deficits of at least four strokes and went ahead of Kang.

Every finished with a 66. Piercy, also in the final threesome, ended a bogey-free tournament with a 64.

Brooks Koepka finished fourth at 20 under after a 68.

Jordan Spieth, a member of Trinity Forest, had a closing 71 and finished tied for 29th at 11 under. His best Byron Nelson finish is still a tie for 16th when he played in the tournament for the first time as a 16-year-old amateur on a sponsor's exemption in 2010 at TPC Four Seasons.

Spieth is still without a top-20 finish in his 13 starts this season. He last won at the 2017 British Open.

Every and Kang played all four rounds together at Trinity Forest, including the extended day Sunday after the third round was delayed six hours by rain and they got in only nine holes before play was suspended by darkness.

Kang started the third round with a four-stroke lead, but trailed Every by one when play was stopped midway through that round Saturday night. When they resumed Sunday morning, Kang regained the lead with three birdies on the back nine, while Every had four consecutive bogeys.

A third-round 68 put Kang at 19 under, three strokes ahead of Every (67) going into the fourth round after being up by as many as five in that half-round earlier Sunday.

European Tour - Betfred British Masters

Marcus Kinhult secured his maiden European Tour title at the 52nd time of asking after producing a birdie-birdie finish to win the Betfred British Masters by a single shot.

There was late drama at Hillside Golf Club on Sunday as Kinhult, Matt Wallace, defending champion Eddie Pepperell and young Scot Robert MacIntyre were locked together at 15 under par when the final group containing overnight leaders Kinhult and Wallace stood on the 18th tee.

With Pepperell and MacIntyre watching on following the conclusion of their rounds, Kinhult coolly rolled in his eight foot birdie putt at the last to sign for a final-round 70 and make his European Tour breakthrough.

Wallace finished in a tie for second place alongside Pepperell and MacIntyre after narrowly missing his 15 foot birdie putt on the 18th green.

Scot Richie Ramsay was alone in fifth on 12 under after carding a closing birdie, while Englishmen Paul Waring and Jordan Smith were in joint sixth on 11 under.

Challenge Tour - Prague Golf Challenge

Antoine Rozner became the first back-to-back winner on the European Challenge Tour for seven years as he raced to a seven-stroke victory at the Prague Golf Challenge.

The Frenchman posted a closing four under par 68 at Prague City Golf as he reached 17 under par and duly added the Prague Golf Challenge title to his Challenge de España crown which he claimed at Izki Golf, Urturi, last week.

Rozner is the first back-to-back winner on the Challenge Tour since Kristoffer Broberg won two in a row at the Finnish Challenge and Norwegian Challenge in August 2012.

He began the final round one shot clear of playing partner Mathieu Fenasse but ended the day seven shots ahead of his compatriot, who finished on ten under par alongside Richard Bland and Danish duo Mark Flindt Haastrup and Martin Simonsen.

Rozner now needs just one more win to earn immediate graduation to the European Tour under the three-win rule and follow in the footsteps of Kim Koivu, who achieved the feat last year.

“I have no words, it’s unbelievable,” he said. “It’s been a crazy two weeks for me and it’s just been some of the best golf I’ve ever played. It’s amazing and crazy to get two wins in a row like that. It’s an amazing feeling.

“The goal is definitely to get the third win now, for sure. I’ll see what I’ll be doing in the next few weeks and hopefully I’ll get a third win as soon as possible.”

The 26-year-old believes today’s four under par 68 was his best round of the week due to the tough conditions which the players were required to battle through.

“My performance today was ten out of ten,” he said. “I really didn’t make any mistakes; I think I made one three-putt and one bad shot but that’s it. Other than that, I played really, really well and in those conditions, it was the best round of the week.

Asian and Japan Golf Tour - Asia-Pacific Open Golf Championship Diamond Cup Golf

Japan’s Yosuke Asaji capped an unforgettable week when he held his nerve to win the Asia-Pacific Diamond Cup by one shot on Mother’s Day at the Sobu Country Club on Sunday.

With his mother and wife following him throughout the final round, Asaji, who earned his spot by topping the Monday Qualifiers, kept his composure as he held on to his overnight lead to eventually close with a one-over-par 72.

Asaji’s winning total of three-under-par 281 also earned him a spot at The 148th Open which will be held at Royal Portrush, Northern Ireland in July.

The Japanese was chasing his first professional victory and admitted he also had a stroke of luck with his closest rivals failing to dislodge him from the leaderboard’s summit.

Micah Lauren Shin of the United States tried to surmount a late charge but dropped three shots in his inward-nine and had to settle for a share of second place with Japanese amateur Ren Yonezawa.

New Zealand’s Danzel Ieremia and Korea’s Y.E. Yang were tied for fourth while Zimbabwean Scott Vincent secured another top-10 by sharing sixth place with Korea’s Dongkyu Jang.
