In the final event of the 2001 European Tour, Padraig Harrington birdied 3 of the last 4 holes to win the Volvo Masters Andalucia at the Montecastillo Hotel and Golf resort in Jerez. After 7 second place finishes this year, Harrington shot a third and final round 66 to win by a stroke from fellow Irishman Paul McGinley. The win takes Harrington into the World No.10 spot and up to 2nd in the Volvo Order of Merit whilst Paul McGinley makes more good progress by moving to World No.35 - a 31-place improvement this year.

On the Japan Golf Tour this week, David Duval overcame Taichi Teshima in a play-off to win the Dunlop Phoenix Tournament at the Phoenix Country Club. David remains at No.3 in the world and Taichi moves up 25 places to World No.72. Taichi has recorded a 92 position improvement in the World Ranking in 2001 and means that in Week 45 there are 7 Japanese golfers in the Top-100 and 21 Japanese golfers within the World Top-200;
